TechSoup in Second Life
TechSoup in Second Life is a community of nonprofits using the virtual world of Second Life to help achieve their missions. We at TechSoup believe Second Life provides a rich environment in which to collaborate and explore new territory, making it a valuable, creative community-building tool.
It is our hope that by providing collaborative network for nonprofits that are beginning to explore Second Life, we can help those organizations learn from each others' experiences and ultimately enable them to more successfully raise funds and reach out to an entirely new base of tech-savvy constituents and volunteers. Our Nonprofits in Second Life group seeks to lower the barriers of access to Second Life, to create a community of practice for nonprofits to explore and learn about the virtual world, and to investigate the many ways in which nonprofits might utilize this unique environment. Through this community, we provide free office space to qualifying groups, meet and collaborate, create a cooperative learning environment and foster outreach, education, and fund-raising, all in a virtual space.
The Nonprofit Commons (NPC) consists of two virtual locations (sims) housing over 65 social benefit organizations, managed by a community of volunteers, under the leadership of TechSoup. We welcome all who wish to join us as partners, collaborators or supporters. Visitors are always welcome to join us in making a difference one pixel at a time.
